Can we talk about sports bras?
Ladies, can we talk about sports bras?
No one, and I mean no one, likes to go through the process of finding a well fitting bra. It is always mentioned that most women have a bra (or multiple bras) that are the wrong size, me included.
I took out all my bras and looked at the sizes. I have everything from a 32B to a 38C. 🤦♀️
Let’s look at how to fit a bra 🤔
Cup and Band
I found this handy chart that relates the body measurements to cup and band size from www.dornecorset.com.
- Taking a measurement right under the bust line for the band
- Measure across the fullest part of the bust
- Bust size from band size
- Refer to the chart for the cup size from the result of #3
Do the bras in your wardrobe match the band and cup you found?
Run Bra fit
Brooks has a super handy bra finder: https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/running-bra-finder
It asks you a bunch of questions about your current bra fit problems, what you like in a run bra and, from their selection, give you back suggestions based on your answers.
But when you are in the change room with five different bras, how do you determine proper fit? 🤷♀️
There are four items you need to pay attention to:
1. Cup too small
You shouldn’t see anything coming out the top or the sides.
2. Cup too Big
The cup is wrinkled, or puckers
3. Band too Loose
The band rides up the back. Take time to adjust the band as well as the straps.
4. Just Right Straps
The straps should not dig in, if they do you need to adjust them. If that doesn’t work, try a different bra style for your body.
So now we know how to find out the following:
- Cup and band size 👍
- How to assess fit 👍
Maybe it is time to pull out your bras and see how they stack up!
